let the light in

Finding hope during challenging times is not easy. In this series, I embarked on a journey back to a time when my world fell apart. A time when I both lost and found hope. These paintings are a collection of those hopeful moments that help you overcome any adversity. Each piece began with a black layer on the canvas. As I’ve navigated through my personal memories, brightness was gradually added. Lighter colours began to partially conceal the darker areas. Transparent layers serve as a reminder of what shapes us. When you invite light into your life, you don’t eliminate darkness completely, but you diminish its presence in your life. The marks, borrowed from lines on the coastal rocks in Portugal, emerge from outside the paintings - hidden in places – are the threads that hold each piece together. They connect the memories, narratives, the places of joy and sorrow, loss and gratitude, regret and hope. It is my hope that this series will remind you to never lose your inner light.

In order for the light to shine so brightly, the darkness must be present.
