Whispers from the coast

Most of my childhood memories revolve around the beach, where I found joy in the blue salty waves, golden sand and warm sun. Yet, my profound connection with the ocean and coastline was formed in moments of solitude. Whether while reading on a cloudy day, taking aimless walks, or simply watching the waves come and go. I’ve always felt that the ocean speaks to me, understanding and guiding me through life’s currents. It’s always been there for me.

This series of paintings was born from a nostalgic reverie. During the painting process, I heard echoes of faint whispers that I recognised from earlier times. Whispers that tried to guide me through life. They became louder and louder as years passed, until they were heard. Each piece was created on a surface that resembles sand in colour, which took me back to my carefree childhood days, where I used to paint by the sea. The colours, composition and textures I used are a blend of past memories and my current landscape in Portugal.

This series is an ode to the coastline that offered me safety, resilience and acceptance when I needed it the most. I hope it will inspire you to tune in and listen to your inner voice. What is it whispering?
